| Operation Swaziland 2008 | Estimated Budget | |||||||||
| AIRFARE/TRANSPORTATION | $5,700.00 | |||||||||
| HOUSING | (Includes: Fika, Bo, Chris, Security/Volunteers) | $2,500.00 | ||||||||
| MEALS | (Includes: Fika, Bo, Chris, Security/Volunteers) | $1,500.00 | ||||||||
| SUPPLIES & LOGISTICS | $4,000.00 | |||||||||
| HUMANITARIAN AID | $5,000.00 | |||||||||
| COMMUNICATIONS (Phone/Internet) | $300.00 | |||||||||
| Pre-Trip Expenses | $1,000.00 | |||||||||
| $20,000.00 | ||||||||||
| What makes this mission so expensive? | ||||||||||
| What really makes the trip expensive is the fact that the U.S. dollar is worth so much less that it was during previous trips. Also | ||||||||||
| there are three missionaries included in this budget not one. Remember that 25% of this trip is the cost of airfare (3 tickets), | ||||||||||
| 25% is for humanitarian aid, 20% Supplies and logistics and the remaining 30% is Ministry/living expenses. Keep in mind that the | ||||||||||
| cost of meals often includes us providing food for the people who are working with us. Getting from one place to another will | ||||||||||
| always have some expense involved with it. | ||||||||||
| HUMANITARIAN AID (What is this?) | ||||||||||
| There are a variety of ways I have given Humanitarian Aid to the people of Swaziland & Mozambique over the years. During | ||||||||||
| our last journey I actually ran out of funds a few weeks before it was time to come home. There are so many needs. We can | ||||||||||
| never meet ALL the needs. What type of help do we give? Assistance with medical, dental and eye care. School uniforms, | ||||||||||
| school supplies. Food assistance. We invest in individuals who are struggling to find a way to provide for themselves. For | ||||||||||
| example: I've invested in several ladies who make crafts and beaded jewelry. Some of them sew & make clothes. These are | ||||||||||
| people I met during hot afternoons (taking time to sit with them, share a cold drink and hear their story while they work. I had | ||||||||||
| the joy of leading these ladies to the Lord. I design items for them to make and help fund it. We help some students with funds | ||||||||||
| needed to attend school. | ||||||||||
| Twice on these journeys we have helped pay for funerals of children. Without our help they had no way to give their child | ||||||||||
| a decent burial. We help believers and we do it in such a way that they don't know they are receiving the help from us. I get to | ||||||||||
| hear their stories a few days later about what God did. (At times we can't avoid them knowing we helped) | ||||||||||
| SUPPLIES & LOGISTICS | ||||||||||
| We believe in the ministry of the local church so we are always open to helping with programs of the local church that help | ||||||||||
| people. Often we have purchased building supplies, Sunday school supplies or food for church dinners that reach out to the | ||||||||||
| community. We stretch this money as far as possible. | ||||||||||
| Often we have to rent equipment, facilities (such as a camp) for the type of outreach or ministry we are doing. As it is in | ||||||||||
| the USA, the expenses mount up. We sponsor events and often need to find transport to get folks from one town to another | ||||||||||
| via the small mini-van called "coombies". It's cheaper to hire a "coombie" for private charter. | ||||||||||
| AIRFARE/TRANSPORTATION | ||||||||||
| We are rejoicing right now because airfare is still a pretty good bargin - in spite of how everything has gone up. This time | ||||||||||
| however when we started looking for tickets the best we could find was $2450. per ticket. WOW! We began praying. A | ||||||||||
| friend gave me the name of a travel agent who he said had done well for him. The travel agent (CARLO) did well for us too! | ||||||||||
| $1875 per ticket. That was a $2,000 savings but we had to get the tickets right away. We are thankful that we know GOD is | ||||||||||
| going to bless us as we have the tickets purchased but it is a loan we must pay back quickly! We are praising the LORD | ||||||||||
| because the tickets also take us to Swaziland without having to spend the night in South Africa which saved us another $300 | ||||||||||
| U.S. dollars and is much safer for us! | ||||||||||
| Pre-Trip Expenses | ||||||||||
| This provides for us to have the shots that are recommended by our health advisors. Paying such a major price for a trip | ||||||||||
| like this we don’t want to spend even a minute due to illness. I've been blessed in all these trips to not end up with an illness. | ||||||||||
| We also purchase some things we know we can't buy cheaply enough in Swaziland. (We buy most of the supplies we need | ||||||||||
| for the ministry in Swaziland. This helps their economy while saving us a little money. | ||||||||||
| HOUSING & MEALS | FIKA | BO | ||||||||
| These expenses look like a lot until you see them | $625.00 | $625.00 | MEALS | |||||||
| broken down. Although the guys will be staying | $375.00 | $375.00 | HOUSING | |||||||
| with their families most of the trip - their families have | $1,000.00 | $1,000.00 | TOTAL | |||||||
| limited resources so the ministry provides something | ||||||||||
| to help offset the cost. Extra people show up for meals | $10.50 = 3 meals each day of the trip | |||||||||
| as well as volunteers who are with us during most | $ 6.25 = living expenses (for housing) | |||||||||
| meals. Not only does the food get prepared in many cases | $16.75 per. Day | |||||||||
| for us, but there is much time spent purchasing the food | ||||||||||
| and transportation from stores that are not close to home. | We will be in Swaziland for two months! | |||||||||
| Expenses for HOUSING & MEALS are nearly double what you see for Fika and Bo. There are many things that make | ||||||||||
| these expenses more. Built into the cost of meals is the fact that for most meals there are between 2 - 5 people who will be | ||||||||||
| working with us as volunteers so we feed them. When it is not possible to have meals at home, we eat out. We eat as | ||||||||||
| cheaply as possible. You would be blessed to see how far we stretch a dollar. | ||||||||||
| Included in my housing expense the cost of paying up to $5.00 per day for security people. These are guys who are | ||||||||||
| paying attention to what is going on around us. Americans are seen as wealthy and it's a sure bet that most will have a | ||||||||||
| variety of things worth robbing them for. Example: Laptop, digital camera, video camera, Ipod, cell phone, watch, etc. This | ||||||||||
| can cause quite a scene and possible injury. These "security" people simply steer me around possible problems. The how to | ||||||||||
| "listen" to what is happening around us and know when trouble is brewing. | ||||||||||
| CHRIS | ||||||||||
