Welcome to our newest journey at
The DOW FAMILY Children's Home & School
Well dear friends, here we are again. So much has happened in this place since last year you won't believe it. There's so much still to be done and I believe we will see GOD do it. Maybe we can even be a part of it, if we will open our hearts to the possibilities! As you meet the folks and experience this with us I know you will be blessed and pray more and more for Greg, Mary Rose, their children and everyone who is a part of this amazing ministry. If you have questions ask! I can't prom-ise you all of them will have answers but, I will do my best! As you can see I have my eyes on the prize! It's all about JESUS and HE came to seek and to save the people of the planet HE created. Together we will do what HE has commanded one by one, day by day! Welcome!
Starting off this journey with a "Bang"
Sorry ~ before we will get to experience the beauty and excitement we will take a step into what I thought might be my death. A week ago in Swaziland I took an anti-malaria medication to prepare for Kenya. That medication (I think) and I didn't get along very well. Small malaria type symptoms began showing up on Friday. By the time we arrived "home" on Saturday, I was really feeling sick. Chills, hot and cold sweats, dizziness, sick to my stomach, exteme sensitivity to light. By Sunday it got worse. Even with sunglasses, if I went outside it was like looking at the world through a sheet of white light. No color. Monday was the worst and on Monday night I felt I would be dead by morning. When the sun rose - so did I! Finally it all began to turn around. I'm not back to "normal" yet but, today begins a brighter day! Keep praying for me.
Maybe GOD will use you - your church - your business - your school to help us help them!

Today's focus is the school! It's exciting to see what the LORD is doing here. The first building is well underway and for the most amazing price. One reason it can be built for so little money has to do with the cost of labor. These guys are willing to work for such a reasonable cost because they love JESUS, they want to see this school in operation and it is providing for their needs. The Dow Family does not "take advanage" of people! The workers are treated with such love and respect and they have plenty of water and food while they are working here. They choose to put in long hard days and work mostly without supervision. The quality of the work these men are doing is awesome.
Where do we stand with funds? Little by little the work is continuing. With 150 students - every nook and cranny has a class meeting in it. So, we need funds! PEI is helping in a big way with the first building but, what we can invest is no where near what is needed. The Dow's have a hard time to live and take care of their huge family with what monthly support arrives. Often some of that ends up going for the school. But . . . don't the school fees take care of everything? Well, so many of the families have to pay some installments vs. the full amount. By the time all the school fees are collected - the teachers and school lunch is paid.
My prayer today is that you will begin praying about some way you might be able to be a part of helping to make this school happen! Maybe just sharing the need with someone during this day would result in a gift being given. No gift is too small. Want to know more? EMAIL ME!
OUR little "CABBAGE PATCH KID" needs your prayers right now!
Little Gregory has not been the cheerful guy today that he usually is. As the day went by things seemed to get worse. By late after- noon it seemed best to take him to the clinic in Boito. They gave him an IV and allowed him to come home. By bed-time he was still having a hard time and lots of crying. It's pretty quiet around here right now so I think he is sleeping ok for now. They will hook the IV up later if needed and return to the clinic about 8 a.m. for a follow-up visit.
Some tapping on the wall just now lets me know they were creating a place to hang the IV. Thanks again for your prayers!
Almost every day this week we have had special visitors drop by with gifts that really make a difference in the lives of our children! New friends from Germany, local pastors, the catholic priest . . . they just keep on coming and it's amazing that they leave some sort of gift behind to help with the work of this place! We can only say, "thank you JESUS" for these wonderful blessings.
MOM'S GARDEN is
an amazing work in
progress!
When you click on these
photos you will see just how
special MOM'S GARDEN is becoming. Soon to have special shaded bench areas in the corners, a nice walking path and the unique fence it will become a place for MaryRose to read stories to the kids and take strolls through an amazing garden. Watching the fence being put together has really been a sight to behold. This garden is feeding the HUGE DOW FAMILY very well.

As MaryRose sat watching over little Gregory in that small - no frills clinic on Friday afternoon, it wouldn't take much to think . . . "she's all alone" there. It is a picture that will stick in my mind for the rest of my life. The stark reality of where "the rubber meets the road" here in Kenya. Sure doesn't look much like a place where a child receives medical treatment.
It's what is available to the Dow's and they are reminded all too often of the fact that this little clinic (not far from home), stands between life and death so often for the childrren they dare to take on as "their children" in JESUS' name. Gregory is getting better!
SUNDAY SCHOOL
an exciting time!
You only need to click on the
photo to the right to see what is
happening on the faces of those
who are attending Sunday school here at The Dow Family Children's Home! There were 65 children here for the lesson being taught by Joyce (one of our older girls). There was also a time for scripture memory and man of the kids came up to say the memory verse: "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength!" The lesson was about JESUS walking on the water and Peter daring to get out of the boat and join him. When's the last time you dared to get our of the boat and got to JESUS! He bids us: "Come". Baba Greg lead the worship and I was blessed with the opportunity to give the message. I talked about what it means for us to walk in UNITY and how we are do go about doing that. When you have such a range in age it is very challenging to bring a message like that. Read: Ephesians 4 and be challenged!
